Getting to Tucson

Once again we got a later start on our trip than we had planned. The good news it that we are as bad at keeping to a time table in the afternoon as the morning. We are headed to visit Mike’s family in Douglas for the 4th of July but wanted to do a little site seeing along the way. The plan is to drive to Tucson this afternoon, spend the night and next day in Tucson, and then drive south to Tubac arriving just before sunset.

We arrive in Tucson around 8 p.m. and decided to go to one of our favorite Tucson restaurants for dinner, El Charro. They have the best Mexican food and I have never found anything even close in Phoenix. Luckily, El Charro had a location just a couple miles north of our hotel. Yeah!

We had been to our hotel, The Posada, once before but it was just for dinner at the restaurant. We were given very thorough directions and amenity descriptions at check-in. It was one of the most detailed hotel intros that I have ever heard. The room was a little small and our two queen beds were actually two doubles. But overall the room was very clean and super charming. The whole hotel has a Mexican rustic theme—both warm and inviting. The pool was large and the water temp was just right. I swam laps while Mike read Tucson Golf magazines fueling his latest obsession. The continental breakfast was about what you’d expect for free though they did offer tasty scrambled eggs and hash browns as well as the usual cereal, yogurt, and muffins. We would definitely stay here again. I am already trying to talk Mike into a long weekend this fall using the golf course next door as incentive.
